Milton K. Wong Legacy Project

Milton K. Wong Legacy Project

Milton Wong was a philanthropist, a business leader and a friend. In 2013 the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society established the Milton K Wong Legacy Project to honour his memory. Milton Wong was known to many as a leader in business, volunteer service, health research, culture and sports. He was a key fundraiser for the Salvation Army, Red Cross, Science World and the YMCA, a founding member of the Laurier Institute and a contributor to SUCCESS.

Milton K Wong Legacy Project Junior Paddler Program

The Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society believes that all children and youth should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of sport, and that no one should be left out. Finding very few programs for youth in our community, the Society developed a number of initiatives for children and youth focused on the inclusive sport of dragon boat paddling.

Where does the Milton K Wong Legacy Project invest the funds raised?

  • Each year, thanks to you, over 2,000 kids participate in “One Time”, low or no cost dragon boating and kayaking programs
  • You provide lunch and two-hour paddling sessions for kids from inner city schools every year
  • Your donation provides the opportunity for high school students to join our low or no cost multi-session paddling programs
  • Money raised from our kind donors provides reduced registration to almost 1,000 youth on Junior Teams for the Dragon Zone Junior Regatta, the Spring Sprint Regatta and the 500m Regatta every year
  • You are making it possible for more than 800 youth to participate for free on Junior teams in the Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival.

Our mission

We aim to remove the financial barriers that prevent many children and youth from participating in an activity that could be the beginning of a life-long love of sport.
